WHO WE ARE
Hello, and welcome to WesternU Water Reflections! We are Bailee, Charlotte, Claudia, Jess, and Talia; five students at Western University in London, Ontario. We are all in a theatre class called Performance Beyond Theatres, and this term, we have been focusing on the issue of both anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism. As all non-Indigenous members of the London community, our group wanted to bring awareness to the issues that come from anti-Indigenous racism in a way that is accurate and supporting. We hope you will take the time to engage in our research and reflections, and hopefully reflect a bit yourself.
Our Mission
Our goal with this project was to analyze and present research on the issue of water in the Indigenous communities of London, Ontario. Over 50% of reserves in Canada do not have clean drinking water or a sewage system, and like we did before beginning this project, many Londoners have no idea about this issue. We want to change that. Through this website, you are able to Read, Reflect, and Respond through different resources we have found. You can read by checking out the Overview and Resources tabs to learn about Indigenous relationships with water, and why water is so important to Indigenous communities, as well as read some stories on experiences right from those being affected by this issue.*
You can reflect by watching our short audiovisual piece where we reflect on our own relationships with water as non-Indigenous women, as well as how those relationships have changed after doing this research. Lastly, you can respond by checking out our Forum section and answering a few short questions on how you feel after reading and reflecting. We hope your time here is meaningful, respectful, and overall, we hope you learn.
